True History.. The first time I took a Outpost to Powwow.. We announced it for a year ahead and the Childrens Ministry picked that week for Vacation Bible School. Sr Cdr. chose to stay home and work Vacation bible school. I could NOT beleve that after bringing a Outpost back from the dead (It had withered) that a RR Sr.Commander would pick DVBS over a RR District powwow camp.. *I "flipped" out and made a big stink. *I WAS WRONG. *I demanded a meeting, laid out my calling as a Ranger Commander and pledged to pay the entire cost out of my pocket. I got pretty hot under the collar, with rightious indignation.. a the Church let Cdr.Jen and I take 18 boys.. The last boy, was a new Ranger who didn't speak. He had whitnessed his MOM kill herself on mothers day. We went to Powwow and *PAUL accepted Christ, and began to talk again.. *That.. on return just got to me as a thorn in my side against Childrens Ministry oversight of Royal Rangers. 10 years had lapsed with OP207 not attending Powwow or CHARTERING! *Guys.. It's taken a LONG ROAD for me to get to knowing... NOW 2002 that I was wrong! I "thought" I had a clear call.. a agenda from GOD! But what it did was throw forces against the direction the Church had in mind. *Yes.. they "wanted" a Royal Ranger program, and "yes" they respected us as leaders.. But what I didn't "get then" was the bigger picture than I could see. I set about to "bring down" the Sr.Commander by useing the LTC as a "Tool/Pry bar" for change. I began to dominate, power trip and plan Outdoor activities to win favor with the Ranger dad "patrol"... ALL THIS WAS WRONG! *In Hindsight.. I should have left a started my own "Community based Commander Duane's A-No.1 Outpost" because that's what I wanted to have happen. *And suddenly, I see that was WRONG as well!<G> It is a chance to show yourself approved. As a healthy > outpost you should also be there to assist and witness to the others by > serving there as well. Besides all the other blessings it is a great > time to learn and reflect. There are a lot of weeks in the year. Could > we do this Church Campout on another weekend? Our Church was a yuppie, plush pew shag carpet kind of AG Church. *When I got cranked up for FCF I started setting up the tipi and hanging dead animal pelts in the Ranger rooms<G> I started fires in the parking lot for cooking classes and hooked up a cable down under the sactuary for the boys to slide down on a pully<G> *RIPPPPPP! *The entire church would shake! We built pop bottle rockets and blasted them on the Chruch roof.. and more- <G> We were a wild bunch<G> The Outpost began to grow and started to win the Ranger of the Year compititons, Best camps ect. *All with ZERO hands on support of the Childrens Ministry.. *because "I" beleved we should be under Men's Ministry! That is what the LTC told me to say.. AND IT CROSSED THE LINE! ------------------------ You see.. after burning our three Childrens "pastors" OP207 was completely isolated from the rest of the church... We were in survival mode and figured out how to self fund. Imagine.. getting told that the "NEW" Childrens pastor wanted to shut down Trailblazers, and sign off any remaining boys with the GMA! *My skelerton about un-hinged from my flesh! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= I was 'called on the carpet... made to be responsible. They showed me a glass jar and asked me to "count the beans" *Instead.. I pulled the pin on self-distruct. *Everything I felt made sence, and was supported by my entire RR team, Sectional Staff and NW Dist. *Rangernet backed me in what I was "about".. and that is why, only recently have my eye's been made to see how far from RIGHT I had drifted.. The following things used to "upset me" Lack of intrest by the Church in Royal Rangers. Lack of support in sceduleing RR events. A non-existant relationship with the men's ministry. Being compared to Missionetts.. Haveing a young Childrens pastor tell me he was my boss.. Baby sitting service. *Then.. I counted the beans. ---------------------------- *After 40 years, the Ranger pledge did not support my stand. It had me pledge to *Serve God.. *Serve my Church.. *Serve my fellow man. and nothing.. ZERO potions of the Ranger Code would back me "building my kingdom" Doc > > I will say I am committed to the Royal Ranger Ministry.
