My Dad is 79 years old.
I call him from time to time.. and over the years he's become pretty disgusted with his son. You see, while Royal rangers was something he had a part in raiseing, today he finds it shallow, empty and full of strangers. Cdr.Johnnie still talks to him, and he has opinions as old as WW2<G> I've tried to keep him posted on changes and activities while a Commander myself in a 4 million dollar church that couldn't find the resources to back a Outpost in scale to the fancy pew's.. I explained the challanges I faced to walk the line, between issues that i have raised on Rangernet- My Dad.. told me to quit. My Dad don't liken to talk things out, but insists on being right. He claims to be the last of the big time AoG boosters, a former home missionary and with that don't like the music being played on Sunday morning. So again today I called up Grandpa to tell him his Grandson is a Eagle scout and his son is still camping on the ground at 49<G> "Your STUPID!" said my Dad.. *I waited a moment and asked him: "Am I really stupid for sleeping on the ground? ..for sure?" Like, *I don't WANT to be stupid<G> He replied.. "No, you arn't I guess... if that's what you want to do, but my days of sleeping on the ground are over.. Son, I'm too old to act foolish!" *So I asked.. "Dad, am I foolish to want to sleep on the ground?" My Dad gave me a lecture worthy of a fire and brimstone 1959 Texas Bible thumper, he smoked my head and waxed my tail. Rangernet, sometimes I get cranky and "on it"..... But 99% of the time you know what's going on, because the truth shines the light, the bright light to light your path in the darkness of the wilderness. Boys don't have that same light.. im-maturity, confusion and fear keep them in the dark.. so I guess, does AGE. *I hope the lights are on in my head till the moment I wake to see Jesus with a ponytail and a smile<G> "Dad" got a bit upset.. "Son, Royal Ranger's is long gone in my past..so why is it still important to you?"
