The uniform makes the Boy Scout troop visible as a force for good and creates a positive youth image in the community. Boy Scouting is an action program, and wearing the uniform is an action that shows each Boy Scout's commitment to the aims and purposes of Scouting. The uniform gives the Boy Scout identity in a world brotherhood of youth who believe in the same ideals. The uniform is practical attire for Boy Scout activities and provides a way for Boy Scouts to wear the badges that show what they have accomplished. http://www.bsa.scouting.org/boyscouts/ The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. Scouts wear the uniform and BSA logos because they are a means of identifying openly with the principles to which BSA is committed-character development, citizenship training, and physical and mental fitness. http://www.schoolunif.com/noname1.html Royal Rangers has always been a "uniformed body", also. Why is it good for Boy Scouts, but Royal Rangers, who are continually compared to Boy Scouts by certain individuals on this list, can pick and choose whether or not to wear the uniform? I'll admit, I don't know the national standards for the BSA uniform, required or not, but I know of several families who have been strongly "encouraged" if not required to have the uniform, regardless of financial ability to get them. The uniform of the Royal Rangers can also create a positive youth image in the community, however, how many of us are willing to explain the uniform? Was it not the same with the BSA and their uniform? Now they are nationally, and internationally, KNOWN, so they don't have to explain it. So, let's do away with the uniform. Then let's move on to not requiring them to finish all requirements to earn the GMA, then let's do away with obediance to authority within the organization. (All said tongue-in-cheek) BTW, as long as we're at it, lets do away with the name, because then we would not be Royal Rangers, because we have made our own "ministry" but if we don't uphold the national standards, don't ask Royal Rangers to bless it with their name.
