Hey D J
I think your are right I'll check in it too. I
don't care that much about a cloth merit, we are not going with the cute gang
vest idea, we are staying with the khakis and placing the colored ribbon
pins on them, and as they add more merits we will just add a # per ribbon to
show how many they have per category. So if a boy did 5 merits in the
silver, they will have one ribbon with a five in the middle of it.
Our boys are sad about the lost "of one badge per merit,"
but they sure don't want to go with the vest either, so they are taking
the option. Their outfits will be similar in awards like the commanders medal,
and you get it 3 times in 3 years, you don't put 3 of them on, you just
put a # in the middle. what are you guys going with???

My understanding is that if we commanders earn a
merit, we, too, can wear them on our uniform. I believe I heard
something about that from national leadership at our regional conference in
January. I may be wrong, but I do think we can.

We are just big boys, a girls, I asked
about how a Commander gets to sign off on his merits and I was told
that we as commanders are just going to have to except ourselves as part of
a honor code to be honest and not lie. If we do lie about merits, we don't
need to be in Rangers anyway. I say get all that you can from
merits, I was wondering can you add them to our uniforms
too???

I thought of something I could do to help my
boys with their merits. We are trying to do a combination of old and
new (transitional) programs to advance our boys. We haven't advanced
a boy in years, now I'm involved and want to stir up our boys and help
them in the Rangers program.
My thought was this: Since commanders
may now earn the "trail to the . . ." as well as the boys, I would commit
myself to working through the plan with the boys. Each week, I would
try to have something to sign off on. The boys and I would keep each
other accountable. I'm thinking of letting boys sign me off on
requirements. Whichever boy I sign off on that night, signs off on
me. If more than one boy gets signed off that night, we have a Bible
trivia face off. I have a set of Jr. Bible Quiz questions.
Whichever boy gets the most right, gets to sign on me.
