Two words prompt my post-

"BSA Patches" and "Uniform"

In scouting, there are many other ways to detect the "rank" or
"advancement status" of a boy or a Adult leader than with pins.

On makeing First Class a bolo simular to Royal Rangers is allowed.
Duties also shift at First Class, inside the troop from the Patrols.
Leadership opportunities increase in relationship to advancement and
*abilities..

In general- there are two tiers in BSA for boys.. *Trail to 1st Class
and *Trail to Eagle.. the ranks between are mear stepping stones and
used to promote and recognize progress in rank. *But the two "big" goals
are.. *Ist class then..Eagle.

Adult Leaders have very few outward signs of "rank" or time served
as a "Scouter".. All scouts from asst.PL to Professional scouters
wear a round patch with their position on the sleave. More simular
to the Navy than the Army.. your "grade in rank" is related to your
job and not nessisarily related to para-military authority.

The result is strikeing! A "PAID PROFESSIONAL SCOUTER" defers to
the judgement of a Senior Patrol Leader with reguard to event
facilitation with the boys. *The Professional Scouter is a
administrative link to district/council resources.

"Uniform availibility"

Just bought a new scout shirt.. $40.00!
"snappy red wool jacket"... $100.00!
