Men.. Youth protection is paramount!
It was July 1982, right around my 16th birthday. A trip to the
portalets right behind our Louisiana delegation campsite had left me
sick at my stomach, and left my breakfast in the hooter. Came right back up
just the way it had went down, just alot quicker. Anyway, I stayed behind in
my tent during the morning assembly-devotions.
So did a commander.
I had never seen him before, but he was camping with our
district. He seemed to be concerned with my welfare and invited himself
into my tent to keep an eye on me, or whatever. I had broken out in a cold,
clammy sweat due to the waves of nausea, and he suggested that I strip
down to my underwear to cool off. This raised my suspcicions some but I
complied, warily. He made small talk and this was OK for awhile, until he
turned the conversation to my legs and the way they looked, inspecting
them not only with his eyes but with his hands as he did. I let him know in
a very polite way that I was feeling alot better now and that it was
time for him to leave.
This guy was gay. Everything about him, everything in my Spirit told me
so. Later I told my best friend about it, who said I was just overreacting.
I wasn't, but I just let it drop. Later, I saw this fellow stop a group of
boys out of the blue. He had them get in a circle, hold hands and pray,
for no particular reason. Again, that same feeling in my Spirit. I just
knew. He made me sick. I felt like just walking up there and telling all
those boys just what he was.
There are people- predators, who seek out ministries and programs such
as Royal Rangers as thier prowling grounds. Little league baseball, youth
groups, YMCA clubs, and many other programs are suceptible to this as well.
It is not only our diligence in protecting these kids through
conducting background checks and other means of security, but also our
discernment in the Spirit and the hedge of protection we build around these
boys with our prayers that will protect them from the enemy, who would love
nothing more than to use a trusted mentor and father figure, who is
representing Christ, to totally destroy thier young lives and turn them from
the One True God forever.
I will be so glad, when this present world is past, and satan
gets what he has coming.

Turn to the news-
The descriptions of Priests
overstepping their roles
as councilors to young men, and the subsiquent
charges
made years following incedents give me a "shiver".
No
way.. in Royal Rangers!
Recently I completed BSA Youth protection
training,
and the cold facts were presented. *Abuse often is
hidden
in the form of trusted councilors or those drawn
to working with youth.
Ranger leaders are potential
abusers.
Before dismissing this
from a personal perspective as
being far-out of line.. Every Royal
Ranger leader should
submit to any request for background check, and
insist on
open ethical conduct for all, and following that-
"prefer"
the comfort and safety of the boys to even the desire
to
*minister..
*BIG STEP OUT ON THE
THIN-ICE
----------------------------
Abuse can be a mental
state of domination as well as a physical
act of body contact. It is
not the right of the Adult to act
freely, as much the right of the
youth to remain free of abuse.
Nuff said for
now..
