Leadership Series of Encouragement
(SUBJECT) What if there was no more Royal Rangers?

I found this letter mixed in with a bunch of Royal Ranger materials that was given to me from a large church on the Texas coast that no longer has Royal Rangers because of no leaders to take it on any longer. It was dated 1997. It is from a single mom trying to raise her son. I am leaving off outpost #, commanders names, and last names for private reasons.
I hope it touches your heart like it touched mine.
Commanders, you just never know how important this ministry is until you find a letter like this.  Hang in there!!! I and many more are praying for you guys.

To Whom it may concern:

I wish to thank your organization. The Royal Rangers, for their effects that they have had on my son, Lonnie.  Through Royal Rangers he has learned so many things to help him develop spiritually, emotionally and physically.  The change has been noticed by all.

Since there is a spiritual background, Lonnie has learned to read his bible more and remember what he has read.  There are details that he has in his heart and mind of Biblical stores, that will never be taken away.  He is able to help me remember stories.  I feel that he has grown so much spiritually and it has helped him to develop emotionally.

Lonnie has been able to better control his emotions over the last 3 years.  This was not an overnight change but a gradual one that every one has noticed and enjoyed.  He used to be full of a soaring amount of different emotions  that he was unable to identify or deal with.  I believe that togetherness of the group and strong leadership has helped him tremendously he has learned through teachings and example what to do in situations.  The royal rangers has introduced him to all sorts of different people so he has been able to improve his self-esteem and care more about himself.

The physical aspects of rangers is something I believe the boys enjoy the most.  They are able to be with boys their own age to realize that they are not different but all going through the same thing.  They get to go on outings and "test" each other physically.  He has shown me so many different ways to tie a rope, how to build a fire and how to just survive.  He has taken on a physical change to the point that I feel he will not be a "couch potato" but a young man that will be able to cope with the physical world.

I heard several times how the boy scouts have helped young boys and men.  I know that is true to a degree.  The Royal Rangers goes the extra mile and gives them that spiritual foundation that molds them fully.  I know that he has developed into a wonderful young man and again I would like to thank you for the change that all of you have brought to his life.
Sincerely, Sheryl
I wonder what has become of this young man in the last 5 years after his Royal Ranger training?
