Republican and Democrat are simply political labels- the political 
parties used to be called Whigs and Tories.

A republic and a democracy are an idea or concept.

A democracy is where the people vote and decide on every issue-one man, 
one vote.

A republic is where the people vote for other people to represent them 
when the votes are taken on issues-like our Congress.

Consider how unwieldy our government would be if every decision had to 
await the vote of every eligible voter...
