isn't coming from him-just using his e-mail address.

No, that doesn't make sense.  For your explanation to be correct, the virus
copies the address book, sends it to another computer, then sends out
e-mails from the "other" computer.  His computer is still infected.  What
happens is the virus generates e-mails from his computer using his address
book.
