In July 1966 Cdr.Johnnie Barnes asked me if I would gladly
accept the challange of the ORDEAL before me by pledgeing
to remain silent, and meditateing on the Ranger Code.

*I did..

At a great campfire, Johnnie spoke of many frountiersmen
and explorers who went out into the wilderness "Ready for anything".

He told us that thou many were able to follow, only a few were
"Called to lead" He named a few people who broke new ground to
open the Wilderness to settlement.

That night, in silence I was bound to a rope.. and with others
led into the night for a series of "test's" of Courage,Loyality and
Fellowship.

The night was long.. and we rolled out our bags under the stars.

That night I was 14.. and now I'm 50.. FCF Wilderness member.

last Sat. night, I again was under a code of silence and
laid out under the same stars<G> *I was led by a youngbuck,
given no slack and tested by ardious labor and scant food to
endure by ORDEAL a test to see if I was *Prepared for CHEERFUL
SERVICE. *I was selected by vote of my peers.. and recomended
to the order..

At a great Campfire.. in silence I was led by a rope signifying
a bond to a brotherhood, and- I recieved a sash as a token from a
boy, dressed in flannel faux buckskin- headress of turkey feathers..

who leaned forward and wispered in my ear..

"allways Love one another"

Wilderness journeys are a Lifetime adventure.<G>
