My first "real" job came when I was 17.  I got a job with the rural water company.  The hours were the same as the hours my mother worked so she drove me to work everyday since the office was just a few blocks away from were she worked.  I was paid $3.35 per hour for reading water meters, mowing grass, and repairing water leaks.  By the end of the summer I had earned enough to buy a car for $750.  That car lasted me two years.

I had worked previously with my dad on his small ranch.  It was "real" work but not a "real" job.  Most of the time we worked 10 hours a day six days a week and sometimes seven days a week.  The pay was room and board and a hot meal.  One summer I hauled 2000 bales of hay for my dad and he paid me a dime a bale.  I had never seen so much money.  I bought an atari and a couple games at the end of that summer.
Now I sit in an airconditioned office, work eight hours a day five days a week and get paid more than I should for the work that I do.  What has happened?

My Dad was a Truck Driver and the Co. maintained a wharehouse

unload railcars. What came in was long heavy rolls of linolueum
and bales of pink fibreglass insulation material. *I was being paid
$1.50 and hour and worked so hard I fell asleep at dinner that night.

*I got up and came back day #2 for more... On hot days, I would *Pray
the phone would not ring.. It was hard core dirty work.

By the end of summer I had enough cash to buy a '67 Yamaha 100 twin.
and was makeing $2.00 hr!
