Working on the farm in Central Maine. We had about 65 head of milk cows, some pigs and chickens. It was my job to feed the calves and chickens. I was in the fifth grade, soaking wet in winter clothes, I'd of been lucky to tip the scales at 85 pounds.
Then I started delivering the National Grit, published out of Williamsport, PA. It was a weekly paper. Anyone young enough to remember it? I saved up my money to buy a bicycle.
