I have recently done a devotional about this where I suggested to the boys
that Jesus was not telling the Disciples to arm themselves but instead
reminding them that the prophesies said He would be seen as being with
criminals aka transgressors (ref: Isaiah 53:12). History tells us that the
Jews were not allowed by Roman law (as an occupied nation) to have weapons.
His saying "two is enough" was because they missed His point and thought
Jesus was telling them they would need swords (I get an image of our Lord
rolling his eyes here). Remember, Jesus later rebuked Peter for using the
sword (verse 50).

Subject: [RR] Q? Peters sword in the garden..

Q? Are we to serve as bodyguards, soldiers and prepare for combat
as Christians? How would this seperate us from others "in the world"
who prepare for war?

What was the purpose of Peter packing a sword as a follower
of Jesus Christ? Jesus seemes to know his diciples packed iron.
Was that approved/promoted by Christ or tolerated?

What went thru his mind when the Roman soldier made a move
on Jesus.. and Peter sliced off his ear!

Interested young men (over my sholder) want to know!

*Thanks- ..sound off!
