Troop328 has become a interesting experiance to contrast against my Royal Ranger heritage. We have gone back and forth about mission and purpose, ministry and *program..
I just want to testify about something good that works- What is unlike my experiance in Rangers is to see boys identify and come to join as full members in the Scouting program. Tyler is just one young man out of many who come and participate rather than "attend" a meeting. Perhaps Troop 328 is unique, but I do not think so... Tyler is known, respected and looked on as he grows in youth from a small boy to a teenager. As a member of the troop, I've camped with Tyler and seen him on the water, in the rain and in a snow cave<G> We see these boys grow tall, like watching our kids<G> Tyler advances because he drives his "program" and finds value in shareing time with us as Scouters. Interestingly, while no one harps on the boys to wear a complete uniform.. They do so 99% of the time includeing shorts and knee socks<G> (Digital photo's to come) But yet.. the Uniform is not the program or the reason the boys join. *They just want to "belong" and have fun<G> T328 does that.. We include you in on our fun<G> When the troop forms on a public schools basketball court we fill the outside lines to half court all the way around sholder to sholder with scouts! (photo to come) Adult leaders form a full line in uniform behind.. and stand sholder to sholder accross the gym floor<G> (yea.. photo comming!) *What behind them on the gym floor? *PARENTS! Quick review: Who plans and runs each monday nights meeting? A: Senior Patrol Leader and his staff of patrol leaders Who sits out in the hallway on "Boards of review?" A: Volenteer Parents Who pays for fees and exspenses? A: A Scout pays his own way 100% Who comes with no duties or role? A: No one.. as we have a role to play<G> What would it look like if a Royal Ranger came to join?
