We're having a leadership change in our outpost.  One long term commander who has been basically a support leader for the past couple of years has retired from Rangers.  Then last week our Sr. Commander informed us that between the two ministries he is involved in, his heart just is not in Rangers anymore.  He, too is retiring.  I have a feeling that I know who will be approached to be the next Sr. Commander of our outpost, although that's speculation, and logical, looking at our staff now.

I'd like to see some changes made in our outpost to improve the ministry.  We have about 5-7 Discovery Rangers and about 3 RangerKids, although the potential is there for a LOT more, as there has been in the past.  I'd like to see the patrol system used as it was intended to be used in an outpost.  But we have no boys who are able to step in and lead a patrol, at this time.  Boy leaders need to be developed, but how?

The (very) few commanders remaining cannot do it all.  The main thing I'm wondering about is the Outpost Council.  How many of you have an Outpost Council?  How does it work in your particular outpost?  Have any of you had to be the catalyst to start/form a Council in your outpost?  How did you go about it?

I know, I know a lot of words for just a few questions, but I'm looking around this here cybercampfire at all the years of experience and seeking advice.  I do not want to fall short of using all available resources in my quest to "Reach, Teach and Keep boys for Christ."

Any help or advice you can offer is greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much.

In His Grip,

DJ
