The Adventure Rangers at NorCal//Nevada Outpost 193 took a trip (184 miles,
5 hrs driving each way) this past weekend to offer our help to a small home
missions church in Pt Arena, Ca. We left the warm interior valley of
California and headed out to the coast, where we drove along 75 miles of
the California Coastline on famous State Hiway 1. The views are
breathtaking as the road winds along sheer 1000 ft drop offs, clean white
sand beaches and rocky, surf pounded headlands. We passed the fishing town
of Bodega Bay, the tourist town of Jenner, Ft Ross State Park, which was
the southernmost Russian Outpost in North America and Sea Ranch which is
one of the more exclusive housing enclaves around. Four boys and two
Commanders put their hearts and bodies into this trip and labored for the
Lord as we trimmed trees and poured cement for a small church in the small
Northern California town (pop. 474). In addition to us, the all-church
work day also brought out three men, Brian, Ken and Terry, the pastor, Ray
Hurst, and his wife Marlene. Ken prepared and fed us a tasty and filling
breakfast and lunch. When we were done for the day, we had two huge burn
piles of branches trimmed from Pine, Fir, Cedar, Eucalyptus, and deadfall
along the church property line. The boys got together and helped Brian
mix, shovel and finish a concrete step around a porch. When done, they
were allowed to put their palm prints and initials on a corner of the
step. In the future, they will be able to bring their sons and grandsons
to see the work they did (and signed) as young men. As I sit here typing
this, tears well up in my eyes as I remember the pride in the faces of
these young Royal Rangers. We've built another memory as we build our
young men...
