Fire up yur brush burners! Strap on helmets for falling DEAD WOOD! Royal Rangers started down the right track.. and left the PATROL to starve! *Very few pages have been devoted to it's implementation and development, yet it is used as the PRIMARY TRAINING TOOL in NTC! Let's go back and RESCUE IT! Cdr.Johnnie said it and 90 years of Scouting proves it that the "effective administration democracy, the fundamental building block of fairness in society is to work together.. and that boils down to the PATROL" (*Winter Dispatch 1979-80 page 6) No matter what the criticism. or excuse... *IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE PATROL SYSTEM AT WORK... *YOU HAVE "PROBLEMS" *You are missing the mark.. you are working too hard and going no-where! *Stones are wore down by abrasion or rubbing against each other... The boys are raw stones that need to get a few sharp edges smoothed out! They have a lifetime skill to learn... and if they learn it in Rangers, we are so much the better! Boys come-join with high expectations. but if not used... or *sold on Rangers/Patrol system or involved..soon leave. *I don't falt their judgment! WAKE-UP!!!! *This is also the reason we have no hard a time to recruit Adult leaders... we just plain expect them to do and be everything to everyone! HONK! *Get REAL! *Leaders use the team- the patrol to delegate authority and decide by committee and gain consciences. Take a hint! Patrol system- USE IT or LOSE IT! -------------------------------------------------- Take the current situation... *What do the boys say? *Wierd Uniform? ---ask a GMA if he is proud to wear that "funky khaki suit"... *Out of touch leaders? --- You could NOT pay me to be a Commander. *I volunteer! Competes with the "Youth?" ---You bet it does! The answer to these criticisms is a strong healthy Patrol...<G> ..a patrol that "does something"!!! When Rangers get together we naturally form "teams" and work to "fix things".. using all the force at one's disposal just makes sense! Likewise if we have a job.. we turn to and do the work! If we then build the boys into teams.. and give them REAL TASKS and RESPONSIBILITIES... *what are chances of seeing REAL progress in maturity and character? How much better to have your friends... your "team" back you! Have them test you.. and use the RANGER CODE as the "ethic"... it will FIRE INTEGRITY! ...and thAT IS WHAT THE BOYS WANT!! LEADERSHIP! *FAITH! *COURAGE TO POINT THE WAY! When you face a challenge- is not two heads better than one? *Patrol! QUOTE! --------- ..Patrol.. (*our plans, *our campout, *our program-- Cdr.
