Cdr.Johnnie was a man of his word... He "*visioned" an army of soldiers for Christ.. He saw a "Western Adventure" and he indicated the Patrol method was the most effective tool we have for the development of our fellowship and ministry... *Recently I received this "word" from a Commander back channel.. "I have honestly tried to overcome my instincts and allow the boys to develop their own program with minimal Adult oversight, *But! it was always on the verge of disaster... with glaring mistakes made by them.. I felt like a total failure, for allowing the meeting to go out of "order" and *I also feel failure in not trusting in the abilities of the boys to lead" I've decided that what is important is the "real thing" and not a form of leadership...but real effective leadership and management of resources. I'm willing to put my name to it and my "Commander bars" on the table! What I want is to see sudden growth in the boys to take a big step out in makeing the Outpost theirs... their team.. their patrol and their "framework' for the life to come" *and ANY OUTPOST CAN DO IT! *If the course of leadership is to continue to "wait to become an Adult" before extending authority or responsibility, we loose an entire lifetime of formative hearts and minds in the boys... *This isn't new it's pure fact. We can do better! *What we "should" do is invest in mentoring those boys with leadership in the very ways we desire Men to become leaders.. Along the way, we encounter the biblical principal to "raise up a child in the way he should go" but *sometimes confuse that to mean "Tell him what to do and he will do it!" We don't really want in Sr.Commander! *No! We want a self-assured leader with the ability to think and reason his way in delivering "with God's help" the best Ranger experience possible! We want a leader who is a problem solver and a waymaker! The leader we want- *Is the HOLYGHOST! *HOW TO LEAD A BOY TO CHRIST? -wait on the Lord, and follow the lead of the Holy spirit! *HOW DO I ESTABLISH REAL LEADERSHIP IN THE BOYS? -wait on the Lord, pray and act in fellowship with the leading of the Holyspirit! *We all need a "Good Leader" and the one assigned to guide us and comfort us in this life is the HolyGhost! *He is real... and he is alive and ready to lead us to the Cross and to the 'right words to say at the right time! *Show the boys who leads you! *Introduce the HolyGhost to your Outpost!
