All,

One year ago this week, myself and three other commanders from this area
braved the fury of Hurricane Floyd and made our way up to Maryland for the
'99 ANTC.

"Floyd's Folly" was probably one of the most memorable times of my Ranger
life:
Lashing together a tower in torrential rains.
Putting together a rope bridge that was strong enough to hold 9 commanders
at once without touching the ground.
Learning the intricacies of Dutch Oven cooking from the one and only Alan
Gell- naa,nanananaa,
nanananaa, nananaaa, nananaaa, nana nanaaaa! (you guys who were there will
understand)

I remember the pageants and the council fires.

I remember the Patrols - some of the coolest songs and banners I have ever
seen. Floyd's Floating Foxes were the best (IMHO)

Most of all I remember the last two services. Communion on Saturday night
with Paul Stanek. An awesome time of consecration.
I sit here at my computer holding a reminder from the last meeting, Sunday
morning as we were getting ready to leave.
The Theme - "Gideon's Men.
Holding a clay pot, Cdr. Stanek spoke of Gideon's men. He asked if we were
willing to be broken vessels so that God's Light could shine out of us. He
broke the pot.
Mark Shanks, Sr. Cdr. from Bethel Temple, a church in our section, got two
peices and brought them to me. They were matching pieces and we wrote on
them and made a solemn promise - I promise to keep myself broken before the
Lord and in this ministry to the boys. I promise to pray for, lift up before
the throne, and call my friend and brother.......
We wrote this on each piece and exchanged the shards.

To all the men who conquered Floyd: God bless you and stay broken. I honor
you for your commitment and pray that God will give you greater passion for
Him, His cause, and His boys.
