You know what folks? It is arguments like this as to why my wife won't
give her life to Christ. She sees all of this wrangling and back and forth.
We were both raised that marriage is an equal partnership with neither one
being better than the other. She feels that this whole thing is a bunch of
hokey. Yes, she reads my emails and these lead her farther and farther away.
I consider myself very thankful that I'm even still around. A fellow
Ranger had hurt both of us pretty deeply and at that point I almost just quit
it all together because it was dumb. The whole situation was dumb. She is
not as supportive as she was before that activity happened and she feels that
it is just dumb. She wants to know why the women get mistreated in Rangers
and maligned she wants to know why no one just moves on.
Where is the witness folks? I ask because I don't see it. If we are
supposed to REACH Teach and Keep then why are we repelling people and chasing
them away? I mean what we are actually teaching them is that we don't know
how to settle differences and come to any conclusions. This is what the
people see and our slogan is just a contradiction in terms. Reasons like
this, I now know I can never count on her help in Rangers because she feels
that it is sexist. She told me that if we ever had a son he will not be a
part of it because those values are not what she wants in a son. Me
personally, I want what the Rangers originally taught but I can't teach them
because that is contrary to how it really is. Everyone is talking the talk
but not walking the walk. How can you witness to someone if your actions
can't back it up? This whole thing is hokey. She wants to know why everyone
has a holier than thou attitude and why everyone is too pompous to see past
their noses?
This is the witness she has seen of Rangers not that of servitude or
humility. The pastor preaches on Sunday and she hears what he said but she
doesn't believe him because no one has ever been sincere about it infront of
her except for the pastor, when she even comes to church.
Getting her support for Ranger activities is really hard. I remain
committed to what the core program was all about but when it starts getting
distracted by this arguing over women stuff, I am going to bail out because
it is a bunch of nonsense.
Royal Rangers is 38 years old now. The way of thinking from way back then
has changed. It is the old vs. the new now. We can sit back and let God be
God or we can lock him up by tying his hands and saying that He just can't
use the women.
We pray for blessings all of the time but we gripe and groan when we feel
like we don't get enough (Gee I wonder why?)
Just as the Scouts are beleaguered by the sexually misoriented issue, the
Rangers are beleaguered by the women issue and the whole thing is foolish.
Until everyone starts being real just think of the example and the legacy
that we leave behind for these kids? They will fight over these issues
because we are fighting over these issues and it will never die out and never
be fixed because no one wants to work things out. Just think of all the
people we turn off to God because of matters like this, Count my wife as one.
