The other day, Geno Plares wrote how he is concerned for the Missionette program suffering if Rangers were to be fully opened to the ladies. I don't think so, most of the ladies that are in the Ranger Program (that I have talked with) have been called to the Rangers and thus - don't want to be in Missionettes. I can understand his concern and I have an answer that works for us: Last year we did a camp out for the girls. We do have a Missionette leader (only one) that can do the camp scene and is glad to. However, there needs to be more than just one. So, to remedy the problem, Darlene and I (a husband and wife team) organized a training camp for them. Sandra was there for the girls and our children's pastor went as well. The girls were taught to setup the tents, fire ring, cooking full meals over the fire, fire safety and low impact camping and so on. The girls loved it since they got to do the things that the Ranger Boys do. My son, our Children's Pastor and myself setup our tents away from the girls and the women (two min.) with the girls. I think that the girls were more excited than thier mothers (my baby lost in the woods). As always, we stress SAFE camping and to have fun. The girls can complete some of the badges in the Missionettes program on the camp. It is also interesting to see how the girls handle getting up at seven in the morning without any fully stocked bathrooms with mirrors and blow dryers and so on. After about half an hour of complaining and us laughing, the girls settled down and had a lot of fun. That is something that works for us, Commander Kerry Mangum. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
