As I recall, Calvinism has it's roots in the teachings of John Calvin, which
has progressed into the Presybeterian Church among others. (Though Calvin
wouldn't see it that way).
The doctrine you are referring to is based on Devine Election of the saints.
The jist is that there are some, who have been pre-ordained by God to be
saved and they cannot lose their salvation, no matter what (backsliding is
not possible for the elect), nor can they reject the call of God... and by
default, the reasoning is that there would be some, like Pharaoh (sp?) who
God will use in certain ways, but have no chance of getting to heaven.
The Assemblies of God tends to stand in the middle ground of this debate
between Calvinism and Armenianism in that God has, in fact pre-ordained some
(like John the Baptist in his mother's womb) to be saved.. but that it IS
possible to turn from God and lose what you have been given. Salvation
being a full choice where it IS possible to reject God.
Anyone have any different understanding?

Y'all,
Hey there I have a question for you guys. I read about
Calvinism how they belive only a few will go to heaven. That Jesus picked
the ones that he wanted to live with him. Can't Calvinism almost be like
Jehova Witness? Since they belive if you ain't 'a JW, then you ain't going
to home? Thanks
John
