I agree with you 100%. We, as a rule, take down the visitors name and
phone number so we can keep in contact withthe boy. The problem we have
is lack of participation and support from the parents and church.

You are absolutely right though about the Wednesday night (in our
case it is Sunday night) rut and we don't spend the time to try to get
out of that rut. I, as a commander, am just as guilty as the next. We
gripe and complain about the lack of participation and the "boring"
meetings, yet we continue with these "boring" meetings. Most of the
reason why they are boring, especially to the kids, is we don't provide
an outlet for the bundle of energy that is sitting in the chairs giving
me a blank look. I remember one night I got so frustrated with the blank
looks and comments from the peanut gallery, I had them all get up, we
went out side and set up ALL of the tents our outpost has. I had them
account for all of the items and repack teh tests neatly and place them
neatly in our "Ranger Shed". To my surprise, they loved it. The next
week I had the boys go over lashing and later in the meeting I had them
start to build a tower. (it looked more like the leaning tower of Piza,
but EVERY ONE OF THOSE BOYS was proud of that tower because THEY built
it. Unfortunately, I am running out of ideas for our meetings and things
to keep them active, or at least keep them active some of the time. I
have a great bunch of boys. I am proud of each one of them, and would
do any thing for them, but without the support from the parents or
church, it is a real steep battle. The fortunate thing is we have our
pastor backing us 100%.

Sorry I got so long on this Spirit. My wife (a missionetts sponsor) and
I have been really talking about how effective myself and the other
commanders are being as leader at getting support.

More to come. Thanks for listening.
