High Ropes Safety Merit Requirements 1. Become familiar with the information in a High Ropes Course safety manual approved by a recognized Ropes Course agency or institution. 2. Explain verbally to a certified high ropes instructor the danger of lightning/thunder storm at a high ropes course. 3. Explain why all equipment should be inspected before each use at a high ropes course. 4. List and explain the uses of at least 5 pieces of safety equipment used at a high ropes course. 5. Explain the importance of two way communication between the participant and the staff of a high ropes course. 6. Explain the meaning and use of the following belay commands: Person on Line - On belay, off belay, Carabiner (D-ring) off, carabiner (D ring) on, carabiner locked, haul, slack, number one ear on/off, number two ear on/off, fall Person belaying - belay on, belay off, carabiner (D ring) off, carabiner (D ring) on, carabiner locked, hauling, slacking, number one ear on/off, number two ear on/off 7. Demonstrate the use of each of the following at a high ropes course under the supervision of an approved instructor: Rabbit ears (butterfly) locking carabiner safety seat harness rescue 8 a rescue pulley 8. Put on and wear properly a safety seat harness. 9. Set up a proper belay point. 10. Successfully complete at least 5 stations (elements) of a high ropes course under the supervision of an approved instructor. 11. Belay a fall under an instructors supervision. 12. Demonstrate proper station (element) transition from one station (element) to the next station (element) by using both self and ground belay. 13. Write a 200 word theme on "What I learned on the High Ropes Course". Submit this theme to the course instructor or your commander for approval. 14. Take a written test of not less than 25 true and false questions given by the high ropes instructor based on a high ropes safety course. You must make a score of at least 80% correct to pass. OK!
