Then I looked at my "basic rockcraft" by Royal Robins 1985
..and would like to suggest substituteing the Prusik knot.<Big Grin>

These "hitches" are related to the "tauntline hitch" in that they have a
"binding force" on the climbing rope.  "*Ascenders" are mechanical devices
used today to replicate the famed hitch in climbing straight up a single
rope!
