Zachery Scott Graham of Vancouver, Washington completed the Basic Training Course for the ALERTCadets on Feb.17. 1999. He was the first of 7 boys and 4 fathers to complete the six chapter book dedicated to raising the standard.of boys and fathers by bringing the young men closer to their dads and turning the hearts of one another towards each other. The course work includes scripture memorization, work activities, e.g., making the bed, cleaning areas of the house without being asked, public service, etc. Zach and his fellow cadets, Luke Regan, John Mark Conway, Peter Conway and Matthew Conway, Josiah and Macky Thomas also learned respect for their elders and ladies by learning to say yes ma'am and no ma'am and yes sir and no sir and standing when ladies entered the room and opening the door for them. They learned the importance of good music, good friends and good dress. They learned and memorized the ALERT Cadet Moto: With God's grace, I will be swift to learn what is true and give honor where honor is due. I will be learn what it means to obey and will be truthful in all that I say I will be neat in room and dress and show to others true greatfulness. All the ALERT Cadets and their fathers have been meeting for the past 5 months and have enjoyed other activities such as looking at stars through a powerful transit, learning to tie knots and flies for fishing, learning cooking skills, picking up trash at a local park and writing letters of appreciation to the local mayor.
