"While they were bringing out the money that had been taken into the temple of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the Lord that had been given through Moses." (2 Chronicles 34:14)
What boy hasn't dreamed of finding a buried treasure or played games with one another in which they search for bounties left behind by others? Such stories of adventure capture their imaginations and stimulate desires for wealth.
As Shaphan, the scribe, read the Book to the king, the Holy Spirit convicted the king's heart. Josiah came to realize his own sin. He recognized that he and the people of Israel had not been living in accordance with God's laws.
Josiah called a gathering of all the people of Jerusalem and shared his newfound treasure. Together the people vowed to serve God and obey His Word.
God's Word is filled with treasures for life. But unless we take time to read His Word, those treasures will remain buried in the pages of a book.
