I had the good fortune (ummm, come to think of it, maybe I should just say
"I had the opportunity") to receive a gift of both vegemite and marmite from
a friend visiting the USA from New Zealand. The vegemite is still safely
stored away in it's little package (which is like the kind you get your
dipping sauce in for McNuggets) but since the marmite had a twist off lid, I
felt obliged to open it. As for the taste......well, if you were to take
soy sauce and allow it to gel or harden into a spread like
substance.......that would be marmite. :-) It's a yeast spread and I hear
our brothers and sisters in the land down under enjoy it on toast and they
also use it to make gravy. I can see the gravy thing but the
toast.....well, sorry folks but that gives me the willies! ;-)
Oh...upon further review of the packaging...the vegemite is made by Kraft, a
name we Americans are all familiar with but the marmite is a "Sanitarium"
manufactured product! It also states on the marmite package that it's a
tasty source of vitamin B complex. :-))))
