As I was setting up some computer equipment at the college, I passed by a
student that used to work for me back in 1987. Nita shouted, "Hey Jennifer,
remember me". Of course I had. Nita had worked for me as a Media intern
scheduling films for the faculty. She said she was taking some refresher
courses at the college and wanted to know if I still worked in the Media
department.

I've worked as a Media Technician for 20 years but not always in the Media
Center, I told her. In fact for the last 9 years I've worked in the
Library -- the brainstorm idea by the Library Director to try to integrate
the two departments. Working in the Library has been a real struggle to say
the least. Enslaved by very regimented rules and policies, and stern
admonishment from ANYONE, (which was usually me) that diverted from the "way
we do things around here", I'd do my best, but felt under the gun most of
the time and unappreciated. The media team and library team had a civil war
going on for several years. The Administration even hired a psychologist and
made us all endure a series of team bldg. seminars which ended up in team
destruction. Finally the Director said, "We'll move Jennifer over to the
Library to help bridge the gap". In the last 6 years the library has had 15
staff quit only to rehire more staff who later would quit. The Librarians
don't like things done differently than the way it's always been done around
here. After the last 3 employees were fired last month, I asked for a
transfer.

While the director was in Europe visiting family, the Dean shuffled papers
and had me transferred back to Media Srvs. The guys welcomed me back with
open arms.
