In 9 years technology over in Media had changed drastically. No more record
players to set up - now CD and Laser disk players. Film projectors had
evolved into LCD projectors with either vhs video playback capability or
laptop computers. But a projector is a projector and within 2 weeks I felt
comfortable setting up all the new high tech stuff.
For the last 9 years I was really only operating computers and doing
researches in the Library databases while checking out books and videos to
faculty and students. One of the Media guys hooked up some speakers over my
desk and said, "over here we all listen to music". He put a Sony walkman on
my desk and wired it into my computer and speakers. Then I came to work and
a donut and cup of coffee was on the desk with a note - "hey it's ok to eat
breakfast if you forgot at your desk over here".
I welled up inside and felt the dark clouds of despair and oppression I had
ignored working in the Library float away. Media was a stark contrast what
with music, projector noise, laughter all around me whereas in the Library
one is not allowed to raise their voice much above a whisper. For 9 years I
daily asked Jesus to show me what I was to learn being where I didn't fit
it. He showed me humility and a glimpse into people's life who don't know
HIM. Now I am back "home". It is said I am missed by the Librarians, but now
in my life is the time of refreshing.
So for those of you who are waiting on a personal exodus - be patient, He
will set you free.
