The Boy Scouts of America is not a "Christian organization", however they do
acknowledge and give reverence to a supreme being -- God. That is why there
are non-Christian members in Scouts.
Certain denominations such as the Lutherans, Catholics and Mormons sponsor
Scout groups and that is how they can teach their doctrines. I find it
interesting that the God and Me, God and Country medals are exactly the same
medal awarded in Scouts and Rangers should you choose to earn these.
My son Josh is in both groups. He serves as a Chaplains aide in Scouts and
leads the invocations and benedictions at troop meetings, campouts and Eagle
courts of Honor. It is rare you hear chapel services in Scouts pray in
"Jesus" name, however I noted that Joshua does on occasion. To my knowledge
he has never been reprimanded in Scouts for doing so.
