Sarge Sellers Training Academy is a week-long training camp for boys that
is hosted by the North Texas District Royal Rangers. However, it is open to
boys from other districts. The Academy consists of 5 different camps that
are held the same week, with boys choosing one of the five to participate
in. The five camps are: Pioneers Training Camp (PTC), Junior Leadership
Training Camp (JLTC), Advanced Junior Training Camp (AJTC), Junior Training
Trails (JTT), and an Advanced Merits Camp (AMC). Sarge will be held July
11-16, 1999. Additional information on each of these camps can be found on
the N. TX web site at http://www.royalrangers.net/ntd/sarge.htm
All of the camps with the exception of the Junior Training Trails is held
at Maypearl, Texas just south of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. Boys
attending JTT start at Maypearl, but the staff and boys drive to New Mexico
where they spend 4 days backpacking in the mountains.
If you are in the North Texas District or surrounding area, chances are
that there are commanders around you that have participated in Sarge in the
past and who would be willing to share with your commanders and boys about
the exciting opportunities that exist for training and advancement at
Sarge. Furthermore, the Spirit of God moves in a mighty way during the
council fire services each night, which is another motivation for each of
us to encourage our boys to attend one of these camps. Even if you cannot
get your boys excited about Sarge this year, volunteer to help staff the
camp. This will help you see the potential of this Academy which will in
turn help you sell your boys in future years.
