This past Friday and Saturday our outpost had a campin/fishing trip. We had a
real good turn out, about 22 boys and about 13 commanders and dads. We went
to Stockton Lake (Missouri), but because of rain earlier this week and of jet
skiers we didn't catch anything. The one thing that impressed me was that our
pastor not only came but was involved in help the boys, he took them out on
his boat and fried some fish for us that he had caught earlier this year. You
know the more outposts I visit or talk to I find very few pastors really
participate, not just approve of it. I think it very good for the boys to see
their pastor helping them because he's not only their pastor he's their
mentor. I have been to outposts where there most of the boys don't even know
the pastors name or have never meet him. they come only on Wednesdays and the
pastor never comes down to see what's going on. I also think it's good to the
see pastor in Rangers once in a while just to see what's going on, it shows
he really cares about the boys.
I'm not sure why I brought this up but I learned a long time ago that you
cannot have a successful outpost if the pastor doesn't support it. Get you
pastor involved, I'm sure he will have fun. Find out what his interests are,
fishing, camping, computers, cars and have him come and talk to the boys
about it. Show the boys he is a more that someone who preaches on Sundays, he
is a real person. If you do this I'm sure you will have more boys in church
services.
