*Right Cdr.Jen... ".my version" left off with me and Cdr.John Thomas
face to face with drunken armed Cowboy rascals, when the gun went off
in the circle...

I held my "water" tho the starch was fadeing from my knees... and
Cdr.John said:

"well, I guess you got guns, huh..."

I kept my eyes on the varmits as they surveyed our campsight, and
don't think they saw the raft- as it was dark grey and the driftboat
was white.

In a backward Country way.. they tried to appolgize, half hearted for
comming in to disturb the camp... *but I senced the devil was still at
work among them...

Cdr.John made openhanded remarks, not provokeing them.. they recieved that
well so we asked them to be neighborly.. and we'd cook 'em a pancake
breckfast later at first light..

They left with some wood, and went back to the growing beer-bust party
and we let the camp go dark...

John and I "pow-wowed" and discussed the few options we had... He felt
there was some decentcy under the surface, I figured if we could get out
we should.. a.s.a.p!

John agreed but we both.. didn't want to leave in the dark for the river
was a hand-full in the day, and it would sweep us down a canyon and a
rapid was below.

We decided to go back to the tents.. and have the kids ready.. if we had
to leave real quick. *The "Go button" would be IF any more gunfire
started.

(*Logic was short-winded on the spot, I wish I could report some bold and
brave move to settle the situation... but in fact we were waiting for
first light, and praying that our "nutral langage and movements" would
speek peace.. and thet the Lord would move on the chrisis and preserve us
from harm, *It was a BAD situation..)

Cdr.Jen reported below what happened next in the dark..

..and be assured we reported the incident to Law Enforcement as well as
the BLM that oversee's the river...

The incident started to change with half the kids leaveing at the barrel
of a gun in the hand of a drunk and maddened Cowboy teen...

I spent the rest of the time sitting on "watch"

They left... and shortly the others left as well!

Behind them was *A burning campfire in a pile of driftwood, and dozens and
dozens of Beer cans thrown in everydirection, debri from a truck and blood
and trash on the ground..

At light... all of us, hurredly loaded the boats.. and cast off
away from that beach.

Cdr.John said later: "I beleve we kept a situation from happening, and
that angels guarded our camp and protected the life of that young man who
was
beaten.. *It could have gone very bad.. and we'll never know what would
have happened if we had acted differently..."

*I had wished for a "cell-phone" and mayby a Riot-gun with OO Buckshot!

...but when it all came down it was the PRAYERS of the faithfull that
gave us peace and preserved us!

We drifted in absolute quiet... downriver for an hour before speeking
a word. In time the sun came up.. we stoped and had brekfast on another
beach.. and continued down river thru the very senic canyons...

We found a camp and double checked that road access was not availible,
and repaired some damage, with peacefull sleep, and solid friendship.

Only good times followed<G>

Praise God for his un-seen hand upon us!

"READY!" for anything...
