Ok.. be advised however I'm on Cdr.Jens home computer and will foul up
something!<G>
OP207 is under repair by the hands of Jesus..
The "remnant" I refered too is 4 boys and 2 men who just wanted to go
on a trip to hike and work on advancements... I could go on about the
situation, but honestly I want to praise God for this trip.
There's a place about one hour from home where the forest has not been
touched by man. Fire swept thru in 1906 and burned everything down.
93 years has passed, and now the forest is back.. but with it is tall
"Old Growth" Cedars that survived the '06 fire and today are as tall as
skyscrapers.. The trail was from the bottom of the vally floor to the top
along a NW creek of cold clear water.
We have had a cool summer, with plenty of clouds and rain and that has
kept the rivers full and running high..
The name of this creek and area is called the siquxon.. pronounced:
"Sue-sonn" and it it a gem.
3 miles of trail, made from beaten cedar and forest floor debri made it
like a walk at the nursery center<G> Lush green ferns and fallen logs
covered with moss, under a high canapoy of tall trees.. the light of the
sun filtered thru to form "beams" like spotlights in a church...
There is no way anyone can walk in a straight line in this forest.
Logs lay on logs that were 4ft in diameter, and the trail had to be cut
with saws thru these logs... It was HOT in the sun<G> for the NW with
temps about 78F for a high and a low of 59F... and only 20% humidity.
*But under the shade of the trees it was a cool 60-65F.. just enough to
feel good to be outdoors<G>
4 Trailblazers *Josh-*Ryan-*Andrew-*Justin were droped off with packs
on trail#130 and I drove my truck down to the other trail head closer to
where we might camp.
Andrews dad "Bud" and I set up watch on the trail for the rangers as we
had lunch.. then after the boys arrived we all loaded packs with fresh
food for that nights feast!
Down the trail thru the deep woods and to a good size creek 15ft across
that was spaned by a rustice log bridge. We crossed and on the other side
turned off to a flat spot with access to a eddy on the larger creek..
We carried no tents but just minumim shelter of a tarp. The boys as a team
decided to explore.. and set the time they would return, and we let them
go. I made a camp from a patch of spongy moss and clover. by laying out
my poncho and streching over it a chunk of canvas tarp. I put my
"termorest" down and laid there to cool off from the hike with nothing but
forest sounds and the waterside music to listen too<G>
The menue that night was "Dirty rice" cooked over a one burner backpack
stove and served over "bugles" chips... *Justin cooked the rice and *Josh
browned the burger and *Andrew puttered with a stick<G> *Ryan stood by
with his plate READY FOR ANYTHING!<G>
Fire danger was low and we built a fire when the boys came back.,
from a quick swim..
*More to come...
2nd days hike to a waterfall,
playing in a emerald pool.
Hawks-Eagles and Deer..
Mt.Bikes
and Justin earns Trailblazer 2nd class!
