Praise

My wife and I just finished a Kids Crusade last Thursday night at our
church. We had the crusade Sunday morning and Monday Thursday evening.
It was a lot of fun and very rewarding. Our theme was In Search Of ???.

Every night of the crusade, my oldest son was looking for something to put
his faith in. On Sunday, he had found a food machine , Monday was the
perfect pet, Tuesday was an instruction book for life, Wednesday was a time
machine, and on Thursday was a treasure map. Of course, everything blew up
on him. The food machine started throwing out raw spaghetti, the perfect
pet was a balloon dog that popped when I petted him, the instruction book
caught fire in my hands when I tried to open it, and the time machine put
him in the middle of a war!. The map led him to the platform where there
was a cross. It was then that he realized that all he had to do was put his
faith in Jesus.

We had 75 125 kids in attendance at every meeting. Several kids accepted
Christ and many more spent time praying for friends, parents, relatives, and
teachers.

Now for my concerns

There were some behaviour problems during the crusade meetings. I had to
stop a couple of times and correct a child from the platform or ask one of
my helpers to take care of a situation. My helpers, some of which were
parents, did not seem to know how to correct a child. Still others who had
volunteered to help, felt that they needed to stand in the aisles or in the
back of the church and correct children from there.

At the end of every service, we gave the children an opportunity to come
forward and pray. This was their opportunity to pray for whatever was on
their mind. I had to almost beg the adults to come forward and pray with
the children. The same adults that are the first ones to the altar to pray
with other adults seemed scared to pray with a child. The ones that did
come forward were obviously uncomfortable with the children.

Conclusion

I have concluded that most adults do not know how to work with children.
They do not know how to talk to, correct, or pray with them. THIS IS A
PROBLEM.

Solution

I have started today working on a workshop for those that want to work with
children. I have not set a time schedule for it, or filled in all the
topics.

Help

Many of you have had a lot of experience working with children. I
personally have been working in childrens ministry for about 25 years. I
would like your opinions. What topics do you think should be included in
this workshop? Send me your ideals and feel free to expand on them if you
like.

A final note

The crusade materials we used were written by my family. My wife even made
one of the puppets that we used. If you are interested in more detailed
information on the crusade, please contact me and I will send you some of
the skits we used. I hope to have pictures of the crusade on my home page
by the end of the week.
