All,
Jonathan Conti and Mike Burke have asked for prayer for the victims of Floyd.
Allow me to reiterate that. Myself and three other commanders went to ANTC
this weekend. We left on Thursday morning and drove through torrential rains
all the way to Maryland. We all, except for one who was single, left our
families in the capable hands of well-trained GMA sons and JLTC sons. There
were originally about 17 from this area attending, so 11 elected to stay
home. We all had peace about going. I can't explain that to anyone. We just
did.
Our area is rather odd when it comes to weather.
Three large rivers (the James, York, & Elizabeth), the Chesapeake Bay, the
Atlantic Ocean, land that varies from low marshland to rolling hills to
farmland, and cities.
Because of this variety one end of town can be deluged while the other is
sunny and clear.
My city, Newport News, and the neighboring city of Hampton got some flooding,
power outages, and some wind damage. The small town of Poquoson (carved
virtually out of marshland), which ALWAYS floods........didn't.
I'm not sure about southside (south of the James River- cities of Norfolk and
Va. Beach, etc.). I DO know that Portsmouth, VA's water supply was
contaminated and the citizens have to boil all drinking water.
Also, the city of Franklin, where my brother lives, was flooded out by the
Blackwater River- the whole downtown area is under 9 to 12 feet of water. I
have not heard from my brother Lynn and the phones there are not working.
Many of the people whom I work with at Newport News Shipbuilding live in
North Carolina (about 45 minutes to 2 hours away) and some of them have not
been able to get home since Friday as the bridges to their locations are
either washed out or inaccessible due to washed out roads.
If, in my enthusiasm at graduating from ANTC, I have appeared callous to
these situations, please understand that is not the case. I cannot get to my
brother and he does not know the Lord.
Please pray for us.
Many who have a prophetic gift have warned and warned for years that we were
due a hit from one of these storms. Maybe we came to rely too much on Pat
Robertson and others praying it back out to sea (which HAS happened). I
believe many have received a wake up call.
