To become a CI (Certified Instructor) you must have completed an LTC and
earned the Leader's Medal of Achievement AND attended an NTC (Standard course
for leaders of Pioneers thru Challengers) or BSTC (for leaders of Straight
Arrows and Buckaroos).
Here is an excerpt from the Instructor Trainer Notebook (available from the
national office):
Standard Certified Instructor
Prerequisites for Certification:
1. General:
a. He has general knowledge of the total Royal Rangers program.
b. He has the ability to communicate effectively.
c. He is approved by his pastor.
d. He is currently actively involved in a local church and, if possible,
involved in his outpost.
e. He is recommended by his Sectional Commander or a member of the District
Staff.
2. Training and experience:
a. He has completed the standard Leadership Training Course.
b. He has attended and completed a National Training Camp.
c. He has been actively involved in the Royal Rangers program for at least
two years.
Requirements for Certification:
1. The candidate must meet the prescribed prerequisites.
2. The candidate must successfully complete an Instructor Certification
Seminar conducted by his district.
3. The candidate must fully accept and adhere to all national standards and
procedures governing the Leadership Training Course.
4. The candidate must demonstrate general knowledge of teaching methods,
principles, procedures, and skills.
5. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and skills of the total Royal
Rangers program.
6. The candidate must demonstrate ability to teach and motivate men.
7. The candidate must demonstrate how to wear properly, a Royal Rangers
uniform according to the standards of the Royal Rangers Leaders Handbook.
8. He must pass the closed book Standard ICS exam with a score of 85% or
better.
9. The candidate must be approved by the Certification Committee.
10. The candidate must re qualify for re-certification every two years,
thereafter, by attending a re-certification class. A training chief who has
taught a complete Leadership Training Course during his two year
certification period may have his certification extended (with permission of
the District Training Coordinator) for two more years providing the national
office is notified of such extension. A training chief can be extended only
once, thereafter, he will have to attend/complete another ICS.
Buckaroo - Straight Arrow Certified Instructor
Prerequisites for Certification:
1. General:
a. He or she has general knowledge of the total Royal Rangers program.
b. He or she has the ability to communicate effectively.
c. He or she is approved by his or her pastor.
d. He or she is currently actively involved in a local church, and if
possible, involved in the outpost.
e. He or she is recommended by the Sectional Commander or a member of the
District Staff.
2. Training and experience:
a. He or she has completed the Buckaroo - Straight Arrow Leadership Training
Course.
b. He or she has attended and completed a Buckaroo - Straight Arrow Training
Conference.
c. He or she has been actively involved in the Royal Rangers program for at
least two years.

1. The candidate must meet the prescribed prerequisites.
2. The candidate must successfully complete an Instructor Certification
