<< Commanders,

Has any outpost done anything this week for Ranger
Week? This year, for the second time(we went last
year), we went to the beach. We only had 9 boys this
year(15 last year), but had a great time and beautiful
weather. We then had Monday Night Football at the
church. We watched a little of the game, but mostly
played two hand touch and a table football tournament.
We also set up the track for fun. Pinewood derby season
is coming up you know. Thursday, our normal meeting
night, we have our traditional(20 years now) Hobo
night. Lots of skits, games, costume contest, songs,
and of course a big ole' pot of hobo stew. This year
our guest speaker will be our Youth Pastor. We end with
our Council of Achievement on Sunday Night. My best
friend and Buckaroo Commander will be speaking that
night. I enjoy this the most because we can present the
boys in front of the church and show everyone that
Rangers is more than just a baby sitting club, but a
usefull tool to reach boys and families for Christ.

=====================
All,

Sorry for the lateness of this reply but my 'puter has been cranky for the
last week.

Yes, Cdr. Geno, Outpost 59 did something for Ranger Week. The "official"
Ranger Sunday was out because of the BLue Ridge Chapter FCF Fall Trace.
However, on the following Saturday, October 9, we had our second Annual
Outpost 59 Ranger Day.
This year we designed it as a community outreach, complete with fliers
throughout the neighborhood, newspaper ad, radio ad (the ads by the way were
donated by the paper and the radio, just ask, you might be surprised) and big
sign out front.
We built a 30' rappelling tower (thanks ANTC), an attached Monkey Bridge
(thanks again ANTC) and set up both modern and primitive campsites. We had
booths for different games (prizes were assorted meals and other giveaways
also donated).
We sold tickets at the front ( a quarter each).
We had kids riding in our "Bathtub Racer" from District Pow Wow and they were
standing in line to learn how to use flint and steel and how to throw a 'hawk
and a knife.
We got permission from the Fire Dept. to have a Council Fire and the Police
Dept. allowed us to discharge blank charges from our smokepoles.
Our Youth Pastor spoke at the Service (done up in a mighty fine Texas FCF
outfit).
We had several families from the neighborhood there for that and a few boys
and girls. One mom came up to me afterward and thanked us for providing
Christian fellowship and influence for her son.

Wednesday night we had three boys who were attracted by the festivities come
up to our meetings....all three took home charter forms, eager to become
Rangers.

We just felt like it was time to reach out to the neighbors and not just the
church kids.
I saw some mighty excited boys.
