Here's what I think<G> *THIN ICE
Royal Rangers hasn't done so good "careing" for traditions and even the boys
that we serve...
No records!
we have a long history of accepting thousands of hours of service and
sweeping their memories out the back door
or under the carpet. *Jesus knows these men and boys who "beleved" in
Cdr.Johnnies beautiful dream.
I'm not so sure the National Office has the responsibility to "protect and
preserve" these memories and traditions.
It seemes to me... that responsibility rests with us who do care about such
"things"..and as we "remember" that has to
somehow empower todays *Program/Ministry as being the latest greatest "era".
It's the future to serve NOT THE PAST!
Displaying patches of events is great! They are colorfull and plentyfull<G>
but the '72 FCF Rendezvou is less important than
the Buckaroo Greenhorn awarded to a new rangerboy next week, and the silver
hawk awarded to a Pioneer next month.
It has to be that way.... We must make the main thing... the main thing!
*Dino-snore Geezer Ranger speech!<G>
-----------------------------------------
Early Rangers wasn't all that great!<g> The hats were lame and the books
didn't project the full vision needed to
carry the future.. and the Uniforms were borrowed from the school janitor<G>
"Seeing" them displayed in a spare room at the National Office dosen't feed
the passion I felt at sunset on the John Muir
trail in the High Sierras!
I've told many... that I cannot remember a single Ranger meeting! It's all
jumbled up with standing at attention and scraping
on the cement floor of the fellowship hall with "Gilbert Stanfield" *what I
do remember is every single night in a sleeping bag<G> The hike to "Little
Jimmy Springs" all the way to the Backpack trip in Yosemite National Park.
I was "called-out" at the first FCF Campfire... I remember that!
What I remember was a "challenge to not forget the moment" and that only a
few would be called...
My mind was filled with excitement and expectation that FCF would bring
many-many High Adventure trips...
whitewater-climbing-bikeing and so forth. FCF was to have "promoted
excellence" and improved the quality of the Ranger camping program. *But
history shows that the "ideal" was just a little less than the reality in the
Fraternity.
Would that have a part in the Ranger History Muesuem?
Pointedly putting a Cdr.Johnnie shrine in the "Blue Vatican" is creepy!
*He would object strongly!
Cdr.Johnnie would prefere you gaze at the emblem and the Ranger Pledge. He
would also tell you
like me that Royal Rangers is not about him... but it's about YOU!
What decisions have YOU MADE?
Just think about National Cdr. Rich "Razorback" haveing to turn the light on
for a tour<G> Heheeee...
*Wow!
Spirit Rider... These thoughts are just mine, and I don't fault yur
thinking of the desireability of such a "Place"
I'm serching for a simular place to "remember" Mitch Silvers as a sympol of
Rangers who have given the supream sacrifice
to keep AMERICA FREE.... *So we may wind up at the Cdr.Jonnie lodge or the
Ohio Disr ranger camp or mayby...
Dade Massey's liveing room<G>
Anywhere but the "backroom in the Blue Vati-can"<G>
