The thought "do the scouts have one" was just me wondering. It has no
bearing on what we do. We have a much richer heritage because we work for
the King.
Luke 9:62, "Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks
back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
The application of this verse to me is once you become a believer, you don't
look back to your past life - it is finished as you are now a new creation in
Christ. As Paul says it in Phillipians 3:13, "Brothers, I do not consider
myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is
behind and straining toward what is ahead." My point is not to dwell on, or
create a monument to, past glories. Also, I am not saying those scriptures
can be literally applied here. But the gist of those verses, in my opinion,
warn against dwelling on the past and wanting us to press forward.
OK, it may not be a bad idea to have a Ranger Heritage thing as described by
Cloud Eagle, but what use is it as many of the boys, leaders, and parents
will never see it. (I'd be curious as to the percentage of outposts that
attend Camporama) It is a monument to the past. I say build your own Ranger
Heritage site in your outpost to inform and inspire your boys. Many new
people coming into our church have no idea what Rangers is. They think it is
a Wednesday night program for boys. A Ranger Heritage display may help
educate them.
One thing a Ranger Heritage site would do is show how far we came from the
first days in 1962. I enlisted five years ago, and from my viewpoint, we
have come a long way in 37 years.
I trust I have clarified my views.
