After 15 years teaching in the public school system in
both urban and suburban districts I have found that
nothing is better for discipline then a well-planned
lesson. Write it down and then memorize it before you
teach it. Second, if you wish to have a list of
guidelines for behavior, keep it short. Three, when
"that" boy acts up and "he" will from time to time
deal with it directly rather then sending him out to
someone else. Respect is very important and if you
send your problems out to someone else the boys will
think that you can not deal with problems. When you do
have to discipline be sure to do it respectfully. We
must not tear down or reduce a boy to "pulp" with our
words. I went from being a student who got into
trouble in the classroom to being the teacher so I
have a bit of an advantage when it comes to knowing
how some of these "naughty" kids think. And in the
make sure you show how much you love them and the
Ranger Program and many discipline problems will never
materialize in the first place.
Sincerely,
David Bishop
