Subject: [RR] *Mitch Silvers -Update #2

*Information presented here is from official USMC sources known
as "after-action" reports of monthly operations...

*What I would hope to see come out of this is *understanding among our
boys of the meaning of being a Vet... and the cost of defending our
Freedon and way of life thru use of force under military service.

*For thirty years this 18 yearold Royal Ranger has been remember by those
he served, with a name... chisled in a wall in Washington DC...

*I would like his name chisled in the heart of Royal Rangers, for his
testimony of recieveing salvation, *with his Royal Ranger Commander
leading in prayer, days before the following incident on Jan 25th 1968

                ------***X***-------

*Dawn 25 Jan 68 Quang Tri, RVN

"Kilo" Co. awaits the signal to commence operations in secureing a village
along the north bank of the Chu Viet river know as My Loc... a early
morning fog hangs over the river delta land of rice paddies and
embankments... The 200ft celling make tactical air support and re-supply
difficult if not impossible.

Batt.3/1 landed at the mouth of the Chu Viet and begins a "serch and
distroy" mission to clear a know area of enemy control and operations.

Dispite bombardment and air action, Batt 3/1 found the NVA still dug in
to stratigic locations, requireing a land based assult.

In the dawns early light Co."K" attacked along a narrow front.
Rules of enguagement applied and "Prepotory" "recon by fire" ect.
were not allowed. One platoon moved around to the right flank to block..
and the blocking platoon came under intense close-in small arms fire
from the village!

(the NVA used AK-47,SKS Carbines,RPD lmg,RPG-2, SG-43 7.62 machine guns,
and varieties of rockets, mortars and recoiless guns)

Co."M" begins to deliver maxumim fire to take the pressure off Co."K"
at the other end of the village... Co."K" reports right flank pinned down
by enemy fire...Co."K" then begins to recieve incomming enemy mortar
fire.. *Only Co."L" is able to maintain communication as the fight
continues to escalate... Platoons on the net are not sure of the other
platoons locations...

*Artillery Fire Mission in support of Co."K" on My Loc hamlet...
enemy positions are shelled with Marine artillery as well as Naval
Gunfire from off-shore and CAS.

Following firemission.. Tanks arrive to evac the wonded and exchange
fiure with enemy at very close range. Despite 5 RPG hits no US tanks were
lost....

In the afternoon.... Co."K" assulted again the village of My Loc and
was able to sweep thru the enemy positions with little resistence as the
enemy had withdrawn.

*These actions continued untill terminated Feb.18th 1968....
