Chap.23
Kilo co. was assigned to take My Loc and that afternoon ran into stiff
resistance. The Co. dug in and began to pound the Vil with air and arty,
determined not to make the same mistakes made during the previous fight
for Thon Tham Khe on Operation Badger Tooth.
As Kilo deployed at the vil edge... east of My Loc, a platoon sargt.
went down wounded in the open between the lines... Two attempts to reach
him were beaten back by small arms fire. The Sargent called out to his
buddies to leave him untill after dark and then come to get him...
A second Lt. new to the 3/1 decided to give it one more try and went
out under cover fire but was shot dead by the enemy. Heavy fire continued
to pour from the vil. *afterdark a rescue party crept out and brought in
the wounded man and the dead Lt.
(*Aside: the further text hints that *Mitches Co. was told the resistance
from the Village would be light, and that in fact was not the case. Lt.
Young continues to wonder at what information Kilo recieved prior to the
fight. His recon unit had infiltrated the Vil the previous night and he
had filed his report that they had seen uniformed NVA dug in...)
