Each and everone of us hear is in Royal Rangers for a reason.
Some of us was in Rangers from Straight Arrows, while others
of us just got in Rangers.
What is the differance between a good outpost and a great outpost?
I think the answer is in both the leaders and the boys.
In order for us to understand a good vrs great outpost. I think
we must know the meaning of good and great. Webster's Dictionary defines
good as satisfactory or superior in quality. Likewise great is defined as
first rate, excellent.
With the leaders a good vrs great outpost has at least three things. 1. The
attitude
of the leader 2. the dedication of the leader and 3. how willing the leader
is.
While there maybe other qualities in a good vrs great outpost let us look
at
these three qualities.
Attitude.
I think the attitude of the leader is what runs the whole outpost.
Many of us do our best to do a satisfactory job and quite at that.
If you only strive for satisfactory that is what you will get out of the
boys. The attitude of the
commander will be that of the boys. In the moive Top Gun. one of the
officers says this "
There are no points for second place." Likewise being satisfactory and
excellent is what
tells the differance in a good outpost vrs a great outpost.
Dedication.
The dedication of the leader plays a vital part in the outpost. Just
because a leader has
the right attitude and willness does not mean he has dedication.
Dedication shows the
boy you are not just a commander but a friend as well. Dedication not only
comes in the
form of the boys. It also comes in the form of training.
The willings of the leader.
In think willings should be second to attitude. As a leader we must be
willing to do things with
our boys. A great outpost goes to a good to a bad outpost because the
leaders are not willing.
If the leaders are not willing to spend time outside the classroom with
there boys. The boys will
stop coming. What good is taking training if you are not willing to put
into use? It's just a waste of
money and time.
As leaders we need to be examples and our boys need to be examples. With
the new year fastly approaching, now would the time to think about where
you have been and where you want to be.
Remember Chirst gave us his all. Shouldn't we expect our boys to be frist
rate?
