Dear Commander Wheeler;
I am not in a quandary about the changes that are supposedly going to be made. I am
still too busy working
on the front with Pioneers, trying to get the boys developed into exactly what you are
talking about. The
boys I am working with are developing good wisdom and may soon be ready to take on a
true patrol system. We
have one boy that was elected patrol guide over some boys that I would select for the
job instead. He is
popular and is very quick at games but when it came to doing a team building exercise
he was lost and stood
away from the group. I see a whole year of teachable moments with this situation. 1.
The cleverest and most
well liked is not always the best choice for leadership. 2. The boy that does not know
how to lead can learn
from his first failure in leadership and knows where he needs to grow. These are the
main things that we
will be using to teach but there will be others as we go on.
I like your ideas about the patrol system.
