<G> Time travelers report that *fashion has always confused Holiness folks...
Consider that Sailors in the past were "concerned" with what would happen to them
if Death caught them among strangers far from home. They devised a way to assure
themselves a "Christian Burial" by wearing a gold ear ring... sometimes it
worked<G>
There was no privacy or secure way to keep anything aboard a ship.. a Gold ring
was public and attached to the ear. *Honor among thieves... and your life
defended it from
being stole...
Ponytails also were standard aboard ships for sailors... and the flap that still
remains on
US Navy uniforms is a left-over from those days..
A ponytail was the best way to deal with out door windy conditions in a primitive
lifestyle..
If you dipped it in a sticky substance to mat it down.. this began the term:
"TAR" in reference
sea going sailor... *Beards also were a convenience to the lack of hot water and
ability
to stand still on a rocking deck with a razor to the throat<G>
Tattoos seem to have been a relic of visits to remote corners of the world, as
Tahiti and the crew
of the HMS Bounty found out first hand. *Sailors are just a different breed of
critter... many
were bold and adventurous, and made fine Mt. Men in history.
Scrimshaw art... Models in bottles.. showed that sailors had lots of time below
deck to "mess around"
though they carried a "western view" of the cultures they visited... the
influence of other peoples made it's way
in the form of Tattoos and strange behavior<G>
What is burned on the *Heart... is what counts...
