Dear Mr. Barnhart:
The reason a boy should choose Royal Rangers over Boy Scouts depends on what he is seeking after. If a boy attends a Royal Ranger meeting at an outpost that is being run like a Royal Ranger outpost he will sense the presence of the Holy Spirit around him. He may not be saved but the presence of the Spirit will draw him to seek out that which seems to give him this sense of  love and peace.
Can a boy attend Scout meetings and be taught the same outdoor skills as he would in a properly run outpost. Probably will and possibly get better teaching of those skills even though there are very knowledgeable Royal Ranger commanders that could put a lot of Scout Masters to shame in the area of outdoor skills. You will also find even fewer Scout Masters that have a good knowledge of  pre settlement history, let alone Frontiersman skills. I could guess that many Scout Masters have never lit a fire with flint and steel and maybe keep a good supply of lighter fluid stashed away in the Scout trailer.
One thing a boy is likely not to get in a Scout troop or a Cub pack and that is a Bible study and a devotion with an invitation to receive Christ. When I was a leader in Scouting the name Jesus Christ was seldom mentioned and of course "everybody believed in God in some way, Why wouldn't they"?  I would be scorned if  I did share Jesus with somebody and was at risk of a disciplinary meeting with the Scout Council and some parent that would think it inappropriate. Then again it depends on the troop or pack and the over all philosophy of the committee. There are probably some troops or packs run by a church that encourage boys to know Jesus Christ.
At Royal Rangers a boy can get a Bible study, an invitation to receive Christ and be loved for all he is worth by the commanders and above all by God and should receive excellent outdoor training. On campouts he can meet God through his creation and get His love reinforced by good Christian fellowship.
I hope this helps your struggle.
