I was taught it at NTC.  They had enough of a charge of powder it fliped
out of the fire about 30 feet.  It made for a fantastic display.  I also
learned it at last years Commanders Conference in a class on  Council
Fires.  I will agree with you that if you do these stunts you had better
know what is going to happen when you press the button.  

We have lit council fires many ways.  It is indeed an exciting time for
the boys.  Perhaps in FCF it isn't important to be a bit flashy but for
Royal Rangers it gets them stirred up and on the edge of their seat to
see what is going to happen next.  'Salvation'.  

If you work with something and you know what is going to happen then it
can be done safely.  Never, Never, Never try something new without FIRST
testing it to see and know what it will do.    Even the arrow on a line
could be a bad situation if it wasn't done right as many things can be
right on if they are done right.
