Hello,
Below is what I have for the Day Camp I am planning so far. Would you please
read and tell me what you think. Good bad or indifferent? Please not where
I say I need ideas for a game. I really need ideas for a game there. Everyth
ing else came so easy, I just have this one sticking point!
BUCKAROO STRAIGHT ARROW DAY CAMP
WELCOME TO
PARADISE NOT LOST DAYCAMP
Decorate: Polynesian theme, coconuts, pineapples, seashells, etc., and have
commanders wear Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda/khaki shorts and straw hats (?)
Instead of uniforms. Have plastic leis on hand to give out to boys. I
(Kelly) have seashells to give out to the boys. Maybe enough for one at each
game depending on the number of boys.
Have various fruits to eat with meal**
Craft: Have each boy bring a T-shirt which we will reverse print with
their own designs.
Memory Verses:
"Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me."
John 14:6 NIV
"Again I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about any thing
you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven."
Matthew 18:19 NIV
"Jesus answered him, I tell you the truth, today you will be with me
in paradise."
Luke 23:43 NIV
"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess
also before my father which is in heaven."
Matthew 10:32 KJV
"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the
churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of
life, which is in the paradise of God."
Revelations 2:7 NIV
WHAT IS PARADISE?
Paradise is defined in the New Merriam-Webster Dictionary (1989 Edition)
as : (1) Heaven; (2) a place or state of bliss and as being French for
"enclosed park."
Paradise is defined in Naves' Topical Bible as: the place of glorified
spirits. That's what we'll be when we get to heaven to be with Jesus. We
will be glorified!
POSSIBLE DEVOTION
First God made the Garden of Eden. It was Paradise on earth. Then came
the serpent with temptation. We fell to temptation and lost paradise.
BUT, God our Father loves us. He wants us to be with Him in the Paradise
called Heaven. The problem was how to get us out of the dark wilderness to
find a way to Him in Paradise.
Well, God sent us The Way and that way is JESUS:
"Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me."
John 14:6 NIV
Jesus knows that sometimes following the Way may not be easy, so he told
us to work with others who believe like we do:
"Again I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about any thing
you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven."
Matthew 18:19 NIV
Jesus loves us even as sinners so much that while he was hanging on the
cross he told one of the criminals that was hanging on a cross next to him
(after the criminal acknowledged that Jesus was guiltless):
"Jesus answered him, I tell you the truth, today you will be with me
in paradise."
Luke 23:43 NIV
After we find out how much Jesus loves us we understand that need to
share that knowledge with others:
"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess
also before my father which is in heaven."
Matthew 10:32 KJV
All we have to do is ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins, ask Jesus into
our hearts, and study and obey His Word for it is full of instructions, has
great directions and in fact is a map to Paradise. Listen to what the Holy
Spirit says, pay attention to what Jesus teaches us in the Bible:
"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the
churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of
life, which is in the paradise of God."
Revelations 2:7 NIV
GAMES
John 14:6
Supplies: 3 Styrofoam rings (decorated like life preservers "SS The Way,
"SS The Truth", "SS The Life") (each ring is successively smaller);
3 Nerf footballs; and Cord to suspend the life preservers with, hang
them either each behind the other or in a row
Object:
to throw football through all three rings (can have SA's stand closer
than the Buckaroos).
Demonstrates:
It can be difficult to follow the Way, the Truth and the Life, but it
can be done and is more than worth it.
Matthew 18:19 NIV
Supplies: 3 Shallow plastic buckets with four holes punched around the rim
equidistant from each other;
cord/rope enough to make four ropes for each bucket about three (3)
feet in length; and
water; and
a container for measuring the water in.
Object: Each team of four has to carry the bucket of water a set distance by
holding onto the ropes. This means they will have to work together applying
the same amount of pressure on each rope to keep from spilling the water.
Team with the most water wins!
Demonstrates:
Teamwork as in working with other Christians - also "the Patrol
Method."
Luke 23:43 NIV NEED SUGGESTION FOR GAME HERE
Matthew 10:32 KJV
Rain gutter Regatta
Supplies: 3 Equal lengths of rain gutter sealed at both ends;
water;
cork boats 3, (way, truth and the life) or have boys make their own
(if so needs such supplies).
Object: Each boy has to blow into the sail of "his" boat. However, before he
blows he must confess Jesus if he remembers to do this a team member
(commander) can help blow, if he forgets to confess, his boat is becalmed.
To make harder could not explain the rule about confession to see if he
figures it out from the scripture.
Revelations 2:7 NIV
Supplies: 3-4 bandanas to be used as blindfolds
Object: To obtain a reward (probably a seashell, candy or a bead). There are
three people on each team. On is blindfolded and the other two give
directions to the reward. One gives good direction and the other gives bad
directions.
Demonstrates:
The importance of listening to the Holy Spirit.
********
Just before lunch I suggest a rousing game of water volleyball. It gives
time for everyone to cool off and is just plain fun! Will need about 200
water balloons one towel for every two boys (or commanders if they want to
play). Played like regular volleyball except each boy holds the end of a
towel to catch the "ball" and each boy jerks on his end to pop the ball up
into play. Points are counted in the same manner as regulation volley ball.
For prize for best memorization I suggest a puka shell necklace or maybe
a cool <>< necklace.
Please be honest and tell me what you think. This is my first time doing
this and I want to do it right!
